Why Four Theories?

There is no single theory of color. For centuries, painters, scientists, and teachers have each drawn their own map of it — and the maps disagree in fascinating ways. Rather than pick a winner, we've selected four of the most influential and turned each into a program you can play.

Albers teaches you to distrust your eyes. Munsell gives every color an address. Itten shows that harmony is built from contrast. Vanderpoel teaches proportion — pixel art decades before pixels.

And because theory wants practice, the Color Club helps you land on winning combinations for your own work.
